About Jaime Perez

Hello readers/friends! Thank you for visiting my official website for all news regarding anything and everything having to do with my writing including upcoming book events. This section is the About Jaime Perez section...so here it goes.

I am currently an elementary school librarian and former HS English teacher who was born and raised in McAllen, Texas. Aside from writing, I enjoy playing drums in my two bands, traveling with my wife Jael and son Jaziel, reading whenever I am not writing (I don't like doing both simultaneously), and listening to music. As of now, I have penned 3 novels, The Vacant Space and the award-winning Through You and A Risky Yet Worthwhile Endeavor. 

My love for reading began early on at around the age of 8. I looked forward to Saturday afternoons when my mother would take me to the McAllen Public Library for hours so that I could enjoy the day reading and rereading every Encyclopedia Brown book by Donald J. Sobol that I could get my hands on. My fascination in visiting transcendent worlds created by words was evident. Even my elementary librarian, Ms. Ziegler (RIP), would call me a bookhound.  

My interest in writing, though, didn't surface until around two decades later during one of my undergraduate English courses at the University of Texas-Pan American (Thank you, Ms. Harris-Pipkin). It was then that I felt it would be a matter of time before I would write my first novel...I was right. Through You eventually came to fruition several years later.   

Here we are now with 3 novels to my name. A fourth novel is definitely in my plans; I just have to tend to a few fatherly priorities now that I am a dad and have a new entry on my life's resume. 

All of my novels are basically, and will continue to be, testimonies of the human spirit, the unexpected and often challenging turns that make up the unique and often arduous paths of our lives. I like writing about the human spirit because I am deeply moved by such journeys and experiences. My books are very real and very human; they can happen to any of us and are, therefore, a part of us.
